Ed Hoogenboom (geboren 1956) is autonoom fotograaf en fotografeert vanaf 1980. Hij heeft de opleiding sociaalagogisch werk gevolgd en is werkzaam bij een welzijnsinstelling in de regio Parkstad. Ed Hoogenboom is fotografisch gezien autodidact maar heeft ook enkele jaren opleiding gevolgd o.a. de Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn (NL) en de Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Hasselt (B) . Op deze website zijn een aantal series te zien die een goede weergave vormen van het werk van deze fotograaf.

Over de series:

“Ik maak series met ingetogen onderwerpen waarin licht, vorm en kleur de hoofdrol spelen alsook series met mensen op rommelmarkten/kermissen maar ook winkelend publiek. Voor mij is fotografie een manier om beter te leren zien en de wereld (en de mens) beter te leren kennen en te begrijpen. Ik streef in mijn fotografie naar een balans tussen vorm (schoonheid ) en inhoud (betekenis).
Ik fotografeer voornamelijk in de Eurregio, d.w.z. binnen de driehoek van de steden Aken (Duitsland), Maastricht (Nederland) en Luik (België). Ik ga niet uit van een vooraf bedacht concept of idee maar bezoek een stad of gebied, rijd rond ga wandelen en maak foto’s waarin ik mij laat leiden door mijn intuïtie (I am a tourist in this life > citaat van Tuxedomoon).
Er zijn 3 onderwerpen waar ik mij op richt; het stedelijke en industriële landschap, mensen in steden en op evenementen en stillevens (details uit oude woon en fabriekspanden en details/beeldelementen uit het stadsdecor). Onderliggende thema’s in mijn werk zijn de vluchtigheid van het bestaan en de invloed van de tijd op de dingen en mensen”.

Ed Hoogenboom (born 1956) is an independent photographer that started his work in 1980. He completed the studie “sociale work” and he works at a social institution in the Parkstad (NL) region. Although Ed Hoogenboom describes himself photographically as a autodidact, he also followed courses at the Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn (NL) and at the Arts Academy in Hasselt (B) for several years. About the series:

“I create series in which light, form and colour are placed upfront, instead of the subject itself, as well as series with people at fancy fairs, other events and people shopping. I see photography as a way to observe the word (and human kind) to learn from it and to try to understand it. In my photography works I thrive to find a balance between forms (beauty) and content (meaning).
I take my pictures mainly in the Eurregio, which means within the triangle of the cities of Aken (Germany), Maastricht (Netherlands) and Liege (Belgium). I do not work from a predestined idea or plan, but I simply visit a city or region, drive around, walk around and I take pictures of the environments I encounter, based on my intuition (I am a tourist in this life > quote from Tuxedomoon).
There are 3 subjects that I focus on; the rural and industrial landscape, people in cities and at events and still life objects (details in old residential and industrial buildings and details/pictures in rural settings). Underlying subjects in my work are the perishability of existence and the influence of time on objects.
